The modest East Side park inspired by a 15th century church in Rome

"Walk through the spiked iron gates of St. Catherine’s Park in Lenox Hill, and you’ll feel like you’re entering almost any bustling New York City pocket park. Spread across this leafy, one-acre green space on First Avenue between 67th and 68th Streets are picnic tables, a playground, and ball courts. On a warm June afternoon, a sprinkler shaped like an elephant sprays water over gleeful kids, and weary parents occupy the many wood benches.
